new track: the hatch

[days in hatch: 006]

new track - the hatch

i've uploaded a new track to soundcloud, called
the hatch.

the hatch [prerelease] by Senator Jim

it is minimal techno, with a headnod to one of my favourite producers of the moment, martin stimming. the three leads are all from the roland sh 09. they've been run through the beautiful handmade tape compression/saturation/overdrive pedal from MWFX (http://www.mwfx.co.uk/) and the hauntingly lovely empress chorus from redwitch. the zoom 1201 digital reverb adds quite a bit to this - surprisingly not the white noise, which I think is drift from the gameboy (this is used for most of the other sounds).

i tried to make some of this this sound a little old, as though i had sampled early prog records. the leads remind me for some reason of the 1972 music inspired by lord of the rings by moog player bo hansson.

if you wish to comment on anything in the track on soundcloud, i'd appreciate it, by the way.

journey of discovery

i left the hatch today. i discovered a public library.

two books were borrowed: this is your brain on music by Daniel J. Levitin and teach yourself practical electronics. i'll give some updates about the former, and might use the other to start a post about daphne oram, a pioneering studio engineer/composer for the bbc in the 1970's.
also 4 cds. i might review one of them. another time. why not?
